Lopesan Costa Meloneras: A Resort Built Like a Small Town

Most of the hotels we've reviewed so far — Servatur Don Miguel, Palm Oasis and Don Gregory — are the kind of place you can walk end to end in a couple of minutes. Lopesan Costa Meloneras isn't that kind of hotel. With over 1,100 rooms spread across eight interconnected storeys, seven internal courtyards, a casino, a 3,500 m² spa, six pools and its own stretch of the Meloneras seafront promenade, this is less a hotel than a self-contained resort town — built in a deliberately grand, colonial Canarian style, with the scale to match.

The architecture is doing a lot of the work
Rather than the glass-and-concrete look most large resorts default to, Costa Meloneras is built as a palatial colonial complex — stone archways, courtyards, fountains and miradores designed specifically to evoke traditional Canarian architecture at a genuinely large scale. Set across 12 hectares and planted with more than 2,000 palm trees from close to 100 species, the grounds themselves are as much a feature as the building. It's a look that photographs extremely well, and reviewers consistently single out the property's visual grandeur as a highlight in itself, separate from any specific amenity.

Pools, gardens and enough space to never see the same corner twice
Six outdoor pools cover a genuinely wide range of moods: a lagoon-style pool with a waterfall and a central island, an infinity-edge pool, a linear "adventure river" pool for something more active, a dedicated children's pool, and an exclusive VIP pool for guests booked into the hotel's higher room tiers. Several are heated through the winter months, and three separate hot tubs, tropical gardens and shaded terraces with loungers round out the outdoor space. Four tennis courts, table tennis, handball and bocce courts, and a mini golf course add sports options beyond the water — this is a property built with the expectation that guests might genuinely spend a full week without leaving.

The spa and casino: this is where the "resort" label earns its keep

Om Spa Costa Meloneras runs across 3,500 m², built around a full "Spa Experience" hydrotherapy circuit using water at varying temperatures, alongside a salt grotto, Turkish hammam, sauna, mud bath and couples' treatment rooms — genuinely serious wellness infrastructure rather than the smaller single-room spas most hotels offer. Note that the spa is restricted to guests 18 and over.
The casino is a real, functioning gaming floor rather than a token gesture — five gaming tables, six slot machines, two VIP rooms and regular bingo sessions, alongside concerts and live shows that run through the property's entertainment programme. Between the spa and the casino, Costa Meloneras covers two very different kinds of evening — quiet wellness or an actual night out — under the same roof.

Family-friendly and adults-oriented at the same time
This is one of the more unusual things about the property: it isn't strictly adults-only like Servatur Don Miguel or Don Gregory, nor purely family-focused like Palm Oasis — it runs both simultaneously. A free kids' club and a dedicated children's pool sit alongside the casino, the 18+ spa, and VIP amenities aimed squarely at adults. For a mixed-generation trip, or a couple who wants proper evening entertainment while still bringing children along, that dual identity is a genuine point of difference from most resorts in the south.

Dining across multiple restaurants
Costa Meloneras runs several distinct dining venues rather than a single buffet hall. The Gastro Buffet Alameda is built around 13 micro-cooking stations with live show cooking — a considerably more varied setup than a standard resort buffet — while Ambassador serves a more formal, nouvelle-cuisine à la carte menu for guests who want a proper sit-down dinner. Guests booked into the hotel's Unique Club rooms get further access to the Toscana restaurant for à la carte breakfast, along with a private VIP lounge, priority check-in, a welcome drink, a bottle of wine on arrival, and one four-hour spa circuit per stay — a meaningfully upgraded experience over the standard room categories, worth considering if the extras matter to you.

Location: right on the Meloneras seafront
The hotel sits directly on the Meloneras promenade, close to the Maspalomas Lighthouse, with the exact walking distance to Maspalomas Beach — anywhere from around 300 metres to just over a kilometre, depending on which part of the sprawling property you're measuring from. Either way, it's a short walk rather than a drive, and the Maspalomas Dunes Nature Reserve is roughly a ten-minute walk away. A free shuttle service to Meloneras Golf Course is included for golfers, and the hotel sits close to La Charca de Maspalomas lagoon and the Meloneras marina, both worth a stroll if you're staying here. The airport is around a 33-minute drive.

What guests say
Costa Meloneras scores strongly across major booking platforms — 8.8 out of 10 on Booking.com from over 2,300 reviews, with particularly high marks for location, cleanliness and comfort. A 2021 renovation refreshed the property, and it shows in guest feedback: rooms are consistently described as spacious and elegant, with marble floors a recurring detail reviewers mention. Value for money scores somewhat lower than the other categories in aggregated reviews — a fair reflection of this being a genuinely upscale property with pricing to match, rather than a budget option that happens to look nice.

Is it for you?
Costa Meloneras is a strong fit if you want a single resort that can plausibly deliver an entire holiday on-site — proper spa time, casino evenings, varied dining, beach access, and enough space and activities to keep a mixed-generation group occupied without anyone getting bored of the same three restaurants. It's a considerably weaker fit if an intimate, low-key atmosphere is what you're after; a resort this size, by definition, doesn't feel small, and guests who prefer a quieter, more personal property will likely find something like Servatur Don Miguel or Don Gregory a better match.
